Counterfeit Luwak Coffee

One day we got a call from one who claimed have a captive breeding in the area of Lampung coffee mongoose, luwak coffee is kind of Luwak Robusta Coffee. He offered coffee Kopi Luwak to Kopi Luwak Nusantara to the market. They offer with price very cheap, well below the market. Then we also asked the sample to that person. Then the sample was sent to our office, when we try, it turns out Luwak coffee is already in the blend (mix) with regular coffee, with levels of 70% of Luwak coffee - 30% of regular coffee.

Researching of Luwak coffee is authentic or fake are tricky. As an illustration, you can read the reference to this article: 3 ways Luwak coffee cupping test. It takes practice to distinguish between genuine and counterfeit Luwak coffee.

The most easiest way to test is:
  • When the original Luwak coffee drink, it will taste the typical aroma of coffee, and feels a bit sticky on the tongue
  • The original taste of Luwak coffee remains on the throat though we've finished drinking it half an hour to 1 hour after drink.
  • Kopi Luwak is not leaving the original thick dots in the former coffee cup.
  • The third way cannot guarantee we drink genuine Luwak coffee, but at least we can begin to understand what the real Luwak coffee and what is not.
Luwak Coffee Distributor that is now in America was told, that in America itself rife circulating fake Luwak coffee that has been in the blend (mix), therefore they are very careful in choosing a Luwak coffee. Many of those who ask for a certificate of Luwak coffee, and many of them are using the barista for the cupping test.

Therefore, consumers should be careful in choosing the Luwak coffee, not only because it lured bargain price, then we immediately bought it.
